Vicki Lynn Ballmes was born July 7, 1947 in Rapid City. She was the daughter of Robert and Cornelia (Mabbott) Ballmes. Vicki grew up in Rapid City, where she graduated from Central High School. Throughout her life, Vicki spent time between Oklahoma and South Dakota, and since 2018 she has lived in Belle Fourche. Vicki grew up watching her grandmother sew dolls, and create cool crafts of all kinds and she wanted to be just like her! She started her pattern company about 20 years ago. She created her own website, was a consistent vendor at the Spearfish Festival in the Park and advertised in country marketplace for many years. The dolls and critters went by the wayside when she discovered how much she loved making purses, bags, aprons, etc. Vicki had her own virtual store on eBay, with a 100 percent rating. For the past eight years she has created for local stores and opened a store on Etsy, where people looked often for her new creations.
Vicki loved her yard, spending time outside, and always added so many different flower beds wherever she lived. She was never a complainer and never felt sorry for herself, even when she was diagnosed with cancer. Her motto over the past year was “I Choose Joy!” She was dearly loved by her family. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she will be greatly missed.
Vicki is survived by her children, Paula (Mike) Beiland of Hydro OK, Robin (Billie) Pfeifle of Crestview FL, Pam (Damon) Lange of Belle Fourche, Brian “Peter” Pfeifle of Norman OK, Lisa (Steve) Frost of Woodward OK, Savannah Vines (Zac Strong) of Belle Fourche; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren (and 2 on the way); sister, Libby Oney of Rapid City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Vines; and sister, Julie Hawley.
