Thomas Tobin, age 87 of Belle Fourche, died Sunday April 13, 2025 at the Rolling Hills Healthcare Center in Belle Fourche.
The funeral service will be held 11am Monday, April 28th, 2025 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will take place 1:30pm Monday, April 28th at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, with military honors provided by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard.
Thomas William Tobin was born July 18, 1937 in Gettysburg, South Dakota. He was the son of Thomas and Mable (Clute) Tobin. Tom grew up in Gettysburg, where he graduated from high school. During the Vietnam War, Tom served his country in the U.S. Army for 6 years. During part of this time he served as a “M.P.” at a prison. On New Years Eve, in 1974, Tom was united in marriage to Claudette Marie Whaley. They had 2 children, one daughter, Patty, and one son, Jimmy. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Coos Bay Oregon in 1976. The following year, they moved to Gold Beach Oregon where Tom began a career with the Curry County Public Works. Tom worked as a mechanic, but he was very talented in body work on automobiles. Tom retired in 2002 at the age of 65. Claudette died in 2010, and shortly afterwards, Tom returned to South Dakota. For the past 4 years, he has lived in Belle Fourche.
In 2014, Tom experienced one of the great joys in his life when he won a Harley Davidson motorcycle at the Sturgis Rally. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing, riding his Harley, and things that went together with his free spirit.
Tom is survived by his son, Jimmy (Debbie) of Damascus Oregon; 4 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and two brothers: Perry (Cathy) of Belle Fourche, and Bruce (Connie) of Belle Fourche, as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Patty Tobin; a grandson; and his brothers and sisters, Marie Crawford, Shirley Hinckley, Genevieve Heffron, Lois Tobin, Vern Tobin, and Dennis Tobin.
