Shirley Ann (Sexton) Curl was born June 27, 1944 in Huron, SD to Harry and Margaret (Bonebrake) Sexton. Shirley graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1962. She married Ronald D Curl June 11, 1962 at the Curl family farm in Gann Valley in a wedding dress she made. Ron and Shirley worked on the farm until 1966 when they moved to Sturgis to run the Red Key Café. The couple and their three children later lived in Gillette, WY before moving to Belle Fourche, SD in 1975. Shirley started hauling bentonite with Ron for S&S Trucking in Colony, WY. The trucking couple later started their own company, R&S Trucking. Shirley took care of dispatching and paperwork for the company until selling it to her son in 2006. Shirley enjoyed working side by side with Ron building houses, remodeling, landscaping the yard and even working on semi-trucks. Shirley’s pure heart, love for life and adventure created many memories traveling, cruising, and visiting with family and friends. Her true passion in life came out of the sewing room. She made many shirts, pajamas, dress clothes, and wedding and bridesmaid dresses for her family and friends. She loved making quilts, wall hangings, table runners, and special embroidered items. A quote in her sewing room described her well “what I make with my hands I give with my heart”.
Shirley’s loving heart will be missed by her son Alan (Kimberly) Curl of Belle Fourche; daughters, Jody (Randy) Roberts, Belle Fourche, Lisa (Gerald) Cotney of Gillette, WY; grandchildren, Amanda (Jeremy), Jeff (Amber), Jerry (Cassie), Samantha, Brittani (Kameron), Lacey (Jayson), James (Jennifer), Nicole, Haley, Sabrina (Alex), Shelby (David), and Blake; great grandchildren Bryce, Garion, Brooklyn, Hunter, Hannah, Payton, Linda, Esten, Douglas, Daylan, Trenton, Montana, Pierce, and Kamdyn; 2 great great grandchildren, Kaedyn and Easton. She is also survived by her brothers, John (Del) Sexton of Belle Fourche, Jim Sexton of Redfield, and Harry Sexton Jr of Bath, PA and several other relatives and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Ramona Diaz, Pamela (Penny) Sexton, nephew Jason Sexton, and 2 great grandchildren.
