Robert A. Schnaible, age 86 of Belle Fourche, died Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the Crook County Long Term Care Center in Sundance, Wyoming.

 

The funeral service will be held 11 am Friday, May 24th, 2024 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche.  Visitation will be held 5 to 7pm Thursday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.  Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard.

Robert Arvade Schnaible was born April 5, 1938 in Linton, North Dakota.  He was the son of Theodore and Hilda (Backhaus) Schnaible.  Bob grew up in Linton, where he graduated from high school in 1956.  During his school years he was very active with the Boy Scouts and FFA.  This continued when he had children as well.  Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959.   Shortly after his honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Marie Nieuwsma on April 7, 1959 in Hull, North Dakota.  Following their marriage, they moved to Belle Fourche where Bob was the Parts Manager for Hoseth Auto Parts for many years.  He retired in 2000.  Bob always stayed busy and he was a very hard worker.  For many years he worked on cars and tractors, repairing and restoring them.   He was passionate about tractor pulls and the won several competitions.  When they first moved to Belle Fourche, Bob and Betty were active members at St. James Lutheran Church, where Bob helped construct the church building.  Bob also helped construct the Moose Lodge where he was a long-time member.  He was also a long-time member of the Lions Club.  For the past 20 years, Bob and Betty have been members at First Congregational United Church of Christ.   Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Together Bob and Betty were blessed with 65 years of marriage.  

 

Robert is survived by his wife Betty of Sundance WY; sons, Robert (Susan) of Belle Fourche, Russell (Rita) of Douglas WY; daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Dick of Sundance WY; 5 grandchildren, Tyler (Dawn), Whitney, Terin, Erin, Liz (Drew); 6 great grandchildren, Drake, Jade, Noah, Anthony, Maya, Miles; and brother, Jerome (Jean) of Bismarck ND.   He was preceded in death by his parents; stillborn son, Thurman James; brothers, Kenneth, Curtis, Duane, Fredrich; sister, Glenda Ost; and son-in-law, Russell Hart.
