Miles Reed

Miles Roux Reed went to his heavenly home on the early morning of July 7, due to a tragic auto accident. 

Services will be held 11am Wednesday, July 17th 2024 at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis. Funeral arrangements are being jointly conducted by Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Following the interment, family and friends are invited to an open house luncheon at the home of Peggy Reed’s – located at 20870 132nd Ave, near Sturgis.

Miles was born in Faith, South Dakota on February 14, 1949. He grew up on the Reed ranch south of Faith and graduated from Faith High School. 

After high school, Miles attended the South Dakota School of Mines for two years before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1970. He was a helicopter mechanic and received the honor of serving as Presidential Escort on Marine One, the President’s helicopter. After honorable discharge from the Marines, Miles moved to Salt Lake City area.

In Utah, he owned and operated his own fencing company. Miles had many big contracts fencing federal highways and airports. His fencing motto was “You dream it, we build it, the impossible just takes us a little longer!” During this time, he also invented many of the tools he needed and used on his jobs. Miles enjoyed working and helping other people with projects especially when they were in an extreme time of need. He could weld and create almost anything he could visualize in his shop. His love for tools was expressed and evident almost every time you talked to him. Miles enjoyed old tractors, red pick-ups, friends and family. He was also a collector of many items such as belt buckles, pens and pocket knives. 

Miles was a member of the American Legion and a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife Kelly Reed, mother Evelyn “Peggy” Reed, son Brady Hansen, daughter Tiffany Reed, one sister Cynthia (Marc Lamphere) Reed, brothers Ethane (Donna) Reed, Jason (Susie) Reed, Judd (Susie) Reed, two grandsons and one great-grandson, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and great nephews and nieces. 

 He was preceded in death by his father, James “Jimmy” Reed, paternal grandparents, James G. and Hannah Reed, and maternal grandparents, Slim and Ethel Robbins.
