Mark Harold Millett was born May 12, 1958 in Sturgis, South Dakota. He was the son of Harold and Priscilla (Benny) Millett. Mark grew up in the Harding County area, and attended school at Stevenson and Reva, graduating from Harding County High School in 1976. He attended college at the School of Mines and he received his degree in Agriculture from SDSU in 1981. During his high school years and after, Mark enjoyed being a member of a dance band. Friendships were formed, and memories were made during those many fun times. Mark was united in marriage to Janie Stang on August 21, 1982 in Sturgis. To this union two children were born: Eric and Megan. Following their marriage, Mark and Janie took over the family ranch and ranched for several years, 5 miles south of Reva. In 2014 they moved to Belle Fourche, due to Janie’s declining health and a desire to be closer to the grandchildren. They always enjoyed watching them grow, and Mark enjoyed giving money to them for their piggy banks, and even a dollar for every tooth they lost. Janie passed away in 2017.On December 29, 2017 Mark was united in marriage to Gwen Padden in Belle Fourche. For the past 4 and a half years, Mark enjoyed traveling with Gwen, exploring, camping, boating, fishing, and 4 wheeling as well. His last day on this earth was spent with her and friends in a helicopter, touring the Black Hills.
Mark was a member of Slim Buttes Lutheran Church. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and Shriners for most of his adult life. He also served the community and sat on several area boards and committees.
Years ago, Janie wanted a dog and Mark didn’t, and naturally a compromise took place. They got the dog and named her “Olive”. Anyone that knows Mark knows that those two were always together. The bond was very strong between Mark and the dog he didn’t want. And “Olive” will miss her companion.
Mark is survived by his wife, Gwen of Belle Fourche; son Eric (Debbie) of Belle Fourche; daughter, Megan Millett of Minneapolis; 5 grandchildren, Kiah, Kendal, Hailey, Paityn, and Jaxon Millett; brother, Dean (Sharon) Millett of Forks WA; and two nieces, Emory and Aaliyah Millett.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Janie.
