Lester L. Mehrer, age 73 of Belle Fourche, died September 1, 2018 at his home.
The funeral service will be held 10:30 am Monday, September 10th, 2018 at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche, with Pastor Will Olsen officiating. There will be no visitation. Interment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.
Lester Leon Mehrer was born July 6, 1945 in Yankton, South Dakota. He was the son of Rufus and Alice (Braunesreither) Mehrer. At a young age, Lester moved with his family to Rapid City, where he graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 1965. That same year, he married Susan Lorenzen and following their marriage they moved to Huron, Colorado, and later Rapid City. The couple were later divorced and in 1970 Lester moved to Belle Fourche. In 1976 he was married to Phyllis Speidel and in 1993, they divorced. For many years, Lester owned and operated Les's Discount Body Shop in Belle Fourche. He also did auto body work for Tri-State Motors, Rails Auto Body, Scott Peterson Motors, Bunney’s Body and Collision Repair Center, and Car Craftsman. Lester was talented at his auto body work and he also was a talented wood worker. He could build anything, including household furniture. He loved hunting and fishing, camping, and playing card games, Yahtzee, poker, and other games.
Lester was kind-hearted, fun, and loving. He was a good teacher. He loved the Christmas season, and he loved his family. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Lester is survived by his son, Chris (Donna) of Crestview FL; daughters, Shelly Kirkland of Marysville WA, Ronda Mehrer of Belle Fourche, Leslie (Steve) Mahoney of Belle Fourche; 6 grandchildren, Dylan, Hailey, Matthew, Cody, JakeLyn, Joshua; 2 step-grandchildren, Zach and Blake; and 2 great grandchildren, Lizzy and Iris. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Harlan (Barb) Mehrer of Yankton, Jerry (Connie) Mehrer of Rapid City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson, Caleb Mehrer.
