Larry Dean Foos was born September 8, 1945 in Deadwood.  He was the son of Arthur and Vera (Schuller) Foos.  Larry was raised in the areas of Spearfish and Vale, and he grew up farming with his dad and five siblings: Charlene, Sharon, Carl, and Carol.  Larry was united in marriage to Norma Yung on June 1, 1965 in Kimball, Nebraska.  To this union was born two daughters: Colleen and Collette.  Following their marriage, Larry and his father established Hills Farm Chemicals in Vale, and sold dry fertilizer and anhydrous ammonia to area farmers.  In 1971 Larry left the business to become a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.  Larry carried mail for the Vale and Whitewood areas for 30 years.  In 1975 the family moved to Newell where Larry owned and operated Larry’s Repair for many years.  During this time period, Larry served as a volunteer fireman for 25 years.  In 2010 Larry and Norma moved to Belle Fourche and for a few years, Larry worked in Spearfish at an auto rebuilding and restoration shop.  He also worked for 5 F Feeders.  In June of 2017 Larry was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, and due to declining health, Larry was forced to retire in 2019.  The following July of 2020 Larry and Norma moved to Reva.

Larry will be remembered for his energy and his grit.  He wasn’t one to sit down for long, nor was he one to complain about challenges in life.  He had many loves outside his family.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and he loved a fast race.  Larry was a talented driver, having won many racing trophies.  He was a “Dodge Man” through and through, and he loved working on cars.  In his younger years he was a talented water skier, and quite the dare devil, having skied bare foot, and even skied while building human pyramids.  Many memories were made camping as well.  Larry always was the chief cook during the camping trips.  He was a wonderful father who taught his girls to fish, check the oil on their cars, and how to change a flat tire.  He was also a wonderful husband and grandfather.  He was fun loving and always on the go, and Larry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Larry is survived by his wife, Norma of Reva; daughters, Colleen Hardesty of Sioux City Iowa, Collette (Vince) Tifft of Reva; 5 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Carl Foos of Sturgis; and 3 sisters, Sharon (Richard) Kirkman of Belle Fourche, Charlene (Leonard) Lull of Yuma AZ, and Carol (Darwin) Kirschenman of Meadow SD.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
