John Joseph Nikodym was born on October 21st, 1950, in Belle Fourche. He was the son of Hynek and Vera (Kemper) Nikodym. Jack graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1969. After graduating, Jack entered the army. He went on the buddy system with his friend, Gerry Jensen. Jack worked in the office, typing discharge papers. His orders were cut every 90 days, so he never went to Vietnam. Jack was honorably discharged in 1972. After being discharged, he went to School of Mines, where he majored in Math. He was then employed by Cliffs Electric as an apprentice and went to night school at Western Dakota Technical College to further his education. During his continued education he obtained his electrical journeyman, and then his Masters/electrical contractor’s license. In October 1988, Jack went to work for Pope & Talbot which was bought out by Neiman Enterprises. He was the head electrician before health conditions forced him to retire.
Jack married the love of his life, Glenda Sorenson, on April 28th, 1990. To this union, they added three sons: Jesse, Ronnie, and Brandon. Jack was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. There are so many words to describe what a wonderful man Jack was. A few of them are humble, compassionate, and selfless. Jack loved riding his motorcycle, camping and traveling including visiting historical sites. Jack had a passion for collecting train sets and beautiful rocks. He also enjoyed visiting with friends and family, playing card games (especially cribbage), and spending time with his grandchildren.
Jack is survived by his wife, Glenda of Belle Fourche; sons, Jesse of Belle Fourche, Ronnie of Belle Fourche, Brandon (Tiera) of Belle Fourche; grandchildren, Maekin, Elizabeth, Matthew, and Jackson; brothers, Robert (Kathy) Nikodym of Denver CO, Duane “Dewey” Nikodym of Oklahoma; and sisters, Bonnie (Gerry) Jensen of Rapid City, Nancy (Bruce) Patterson of Leland, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Barbara Stinson, and brother, Norman Nikodym.
