Irene Olson, age 93 of Belle Fourche, died Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Monument Health Spearfish Hospital.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 2pm Monday, October 28th, 2024 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche. Visitation will take place 4 to 6pm Sunday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Inurnment will be held in Pine Slope Cemetery.
Agnes Irene Schnitger, was born January 11, 1931 in Whitewood. She was the daughter of Herman and Clarabelle (Loup) Schnitger. Irene graduated from the Belle Fourche High School. She was united in marriage to Richard Olson on July 7, 1950 in Belle Fourche. To this union was born three children: Carol, David, and Duane. Following their marriage, Richard and Irene ranched east of Belle Fourche for many years. Richard died in 1990, and in 2008, Irene moved into town. For many years, Irene worked as a cook at the café in the Belle Fourche Livestock salebarn. She also worked at the Tastee Freeze. Irene was a member of the Red Hats; Moose Lodge; and various circles at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. One of Irene’s main hobbies in life was bowling. She was an avid bowler and was a member of a bowling league for many years. She was a devoted grandmother, and never missed an event. Irene was a wonderful mother as well, and she will be greatly missed by her family.
Irene is survived by her children, David (Jeri) Olson of Belle Fourche, Duane W. (Laurie) Olson of Belle Fourche, Carol Ann (Larry Hancock) Olson of Chicago IL; 3 grandchildren, Chelsea (John) Heap of Cheyenne WY, Kathy (Pete) Hlavka of Pine Haven WY, Kayla Olson of Sioux Falls; 3 great grandchildren, Rosemary Hlavka, Oaklee and Oliver Heap, (one great grandchild on the way); sister, Deloris Harrison of Eau Claire WI; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Nedra Foust; and brother, Bill Schnitger.
