Dorothy Olson

Dorothy Olson, age 90 of Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at the Rolling Hills Healthcare Center in Belle Fourche.

The funeral service will be held 10am Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche.  Visitation will be held 5 to 7pm Monday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will be held in Pine Slope Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church.

Dorothy May Rundle was born May 14, 1932 in Lead, South Dakota.  She was the daughter of Thomas and Gwendolyn (Wasley) Rundle.  Dorothy grew up in Lead, where she graduated from high school in 1950.  During her years of living in Lead, Dorothy spent some of them working at the Homestake Time Keeping Office.  In 1953, Dorothy was united in marriage to William Robert Olson.  To this union two children were born: Eileen and Robert.  Following their marriage, Bob and Dorothy moved to the Olson Family Ranch, located east of Belle Fourche.  Together they farmed and ranched for many years, until Bob’s death in 2007.  The ranch life was a good life for the Olson family.  Dorothy always stayed busy, whether it was working with her bum lambs, her chickens, or her garden.  In 2015, Dorothy moved into Belle Fourche and in 2017 she moved into the Edgewood Vista Senior Living Center in Spearfish, where she met many new friends. 

Dorothy will be remembered for her great personality and the love she had for others.  She was quick to make friends, and she was loving, kind, giving, and had a great sense of humor.  She was never afraid to say what was on her mind.  She loved her family so much and she is going to be missed greatly by all of them, and her friends as well.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Robert (Laura) Olson of Spearfish; daughter, Eileen (Mike) Miller of Belle Fourche; 6 grandchildren, Justin, Derek (Anna), Sarah (Justin), Aria, Logan, Kelsey (Chris); 6 great grandchildren, Olivia, Carly, Ember, Jazlyn, Jack, Sawyer; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; sister, Laura; and brothers, Thomas, Robert, Ray, and John.
