Donna Speidel

Donna Speidel, age 86 of Belle Fourche, died Friday, July 20, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

The funeral service will be held 1pm Wednesday, July 25^th, 2018 at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche.  Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Tuesday, with a public prayer service at 6:30pm, at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.  Interment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery.

Donna Hardisty was born September 23, 1931 in Alzada, Montana.  She was the daughter of William and Violet (King) Hardisty.  Donna grew up near Alzada, where she also attended school.  At the age of 16, Donna was united in marriage to Jacob Speidel on June 18, 1948 in Belle Fourche.  To this union two children were born: Phyllis and Ron.  Following their marriage, Jake and Donna lived in Belle Fourche where Jake worked at the Texaco station and owned the Mobile station for several years.  Donna worked as a pharmacy technician for many years at the pharmacies in Belle Fourche.  They included: Becker’s Drug, Husband’s Drug, The Medicine Shop, Thomas Drug, Ron Schwans FTC Pharmacy, and Lynn’s Dakotamart.  She also was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.  Donna ran the Alzada Star Route for 48 years, retiring in 1996.  Her husband died in 1987 and since then Donna continued to live in Belle Fourche. 

Donna will be remembered for being a classy woman who dressed nice and had impeccable hair.  She worked hard and she loved to dance.  Jake and Donna never missed a Saturday night dance, and they were fun to watch because of how elegant they could dance.  Together they enjoyed many motorcycle rides on the Harley Davidson, and Donna always had a scarf over her perfect hair.  Donna was loving and caring, and she was also strong and feisty.  She was a care giver to many and she always felt it was important to take care of family who needed care.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  And she will be greatly missed.

Donna is survived by her son, Ron (Sheila) Speidel of Spearfish; daughter, Phyllis Mehrer of Belle Fourche; 5 grandchildren: Ronda Mehrer, Leslie Mahoney, Chris Mehrer, Matthew Speidel, Mackensey Speidel; 2 great grandchildren, JakeLyn Mehrer, Joshua Mehrer; and son-in-law, Lester Mehrer of Belle Fourche.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Doris Oliver and Dorthea Fredericksen.
