DeeDee grew up in Spearfish and after high school she enlisted in the U.S. Army. During her service, she was stationed in Germany. After her service in the Army, DeeDee moved back to Spearfish. At different times in her life, DeeDee fell in love with two men, and although the relationships ended, the friendships never did. One of them was Doug Kaiser and during those years they brought a daughter, Tawney into the world. The other was Frank Gabel, whom she married and later divorced. To this union was born two daughters, Julie, Kailee, and a son, Jacek. DeeDee was a devoted mother who loved her children dearly. DeeDee worked as a bartender, and waitress. Working as a server at Mustang Sally’s in Deadwood was her favorite job because of the many friendships that came as a result.
DeeDee will be remembered for many things. One of them was her value of respecting people, no matter who they were. She had a loving, big heart that cared for many, and many people called her “mom”. She was independent and strong, smart as well. She was a great cook and baker. Mostly, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.
DeeDee is survived by her 2 daughters, Tawney (Johnny) Carlson of Bridger MT, Kailee (Bailey) Njos of Belle Fourche; son, Jacek Gabel of Spearfish; 6 grandchildren: Tinsley, Jentrie, and Tavon Carlson, Ryleighn, Copeleighn, and Leighton Njos; sister, Cindy (Keith) Wellard of Pennsylvania; and brothers, James (Camy) Lewis of Belle Fourche, William (Nicole) Lewis of Spearfish.
DeeDee was preceded in death by her daughter, Julie Gabel.
