Dale Smith

Dale Smith, age 66 of Belle Fourche, went home to heaven at the age of 66 on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

Dale’s life will be celebrated 1 to 4pm Saturday, September 21st, 2024 on the upper floor of the Loud American Roadhouse in Sturgis . Arrangements are with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. 

Dale Smith was born December 2, 1957 in Ainsworth, Nebraska. He was the son of Gerald and Velda (Lewis) Smith. Dale was a cowboy all his life, and it started with his childhood, growing up on the Smith family ranch near Ainsworth. He graduated from the Ainsworth High School in 1976 and spent two years serving his country in the U.S. Marines Corp. Dale earned a degree in welding from the Grand Island Technical College, and during those younger years, he competed in many rodeos. Dale competed in almost all the events – roping and rough stock. On October 22, 1988, he was united in marriage to Joanne Williams in Rapid City. Following their marriage, they lived in Black Hawk, Spencer NE, and in 2001 they moved to Gillette WY, before settling in Belle Fourche in 2005. Dale was a heavy equipment operator and helped with excavation for pipe line construction. He was also a “Jack of All Trades”. There weren’t many things he couldn’t do, and he was highly skilled. 

Dale wasn’t a big talker when it came to people. He was a bit quiet and discerning. He had a tender heart, and he was strong. He was a cowboy at heart.

Dale is survived by his wife, Joanne of Belle Fourche; daughters, Lacey (Michael) Beatson of Belle Fourche, Roshon Foran of Billings MT; step-children, Amanda (Terry) Tarrant of White Owl SD, Tara Pietz of Sturgis, Shane (Desarae) Love of Sturgis; 20 grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Delbert (Wendy) Smith of Ainsworth NE, and Sidney (Tammi) Smith of Danebrog NE.
