Austin Michael Jewett was born August 19, 2004 in Spearfish. He was the son of Bill and Lesa (Harvey) Jewett. Austin grew up in Belle Fourche where he graduated from high school in 2023. In high school, Austin enjoyed being a member of the track team, where he competed in the hurdles as well as the relay races. Competing at the SD State Track Tournament during his Senior year, this past May, was a very special memory for him. When Austin was 16 years old, he started working at Lynn’s Dakotamart. During his younger years, he was quite shy and introverted in some ways. Working at Lynn’s caused Austin to “come out of his shell” and over those two years of working there, Austin changed in so many good ways. Austin was very thankful for his friendship with Jim Grapentine and all that he did for him while working there.
Austin was active at the Connection Church in Belle Fourche. It’s a place where he learned much about God and what He had done for him. It was important for Austin to understand what it meant to be a Christian and what baptism was all about. And after coming to faith in Christ, Austin was baptized last summer. Austin grew up with many sisters in his life. He loved them all. In fact he was quite protective over all of them. He had a great sense of humor and a very big heart. He was affectionate as well. Often he would hold hands with his sisters, rub someone’s back, or even hold his mother’s face in his hands. He had a special ability to express his love. Comfort comes from the many memories and having no doubts that Austin is in heaven, and knowing this is not the end.
Austin is survived by his parents Bill and Lesa Jewett of Belle Fourche; half-sister, Bailey (Ben) Crosswait of Buffalo WY; sisters, Kelsey Jewett of Spearfish, Amber (Josh) O’Byrne of Belle Fourche, Ashley (Colin) Powell of Pierre, Amanda Jewett of Casper WY, Allison Jewett of Belle Fourche, Alexis Jewett of Belle Fourche, Ainsley Jewett of Belle Fourche; grandparents, Dan and Judy Harvey of Spearfish, Bruce and Jean Altoff of Great Falls MT, Bob and Carol Jewett of Dell Rapids SD; aunts and uncles, Shane and Christy Hanson of Faulkton SD, Jerry and Michele Peters of Belle Fourche, Tyler and Sally Jewett of Belle Fourche; and many cousins, nieces, and nephew.
