Sue Svoboda, age 96 of Belle Fourche, died Monday September 20, 2010 at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care Center. The funeral service will be held 1pm Thursday September 23rd, 2010 at the Greater Hulett Community Center in Hulett, WY with Rev. Andy Anderson officiating. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Wednesday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour prior to the service in Hulett. Ollie Sue Pannell was born December 20, 1913 near Alva, Wyoming. She was the daughter of Walter and Hazel (Lull) Pannell. Sue grew up on the family ranch near Alva Wyoming, and graduated from the Belle Fourche High School in 1931. On May 18, 1933 she was united in marriage to Joe Svoboda in Ekalaka, Montana. To this union, three children were born: Robert, Frances, and Vance. Following their marriage, Joe and Sue ranched in the Alva area for more than 50 years. Sue taught school in Crook County for seven years and for nine years, she served on the Crook County Library Board. Sue was a gifted seamstress and quilter and she loved reading. Following their retirement from ranching, Joe and Sue moved to Belle Fourche. Joe died in 1993. Following his death, Sue continued living in Belle Fourche. Sue was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Belle Fourche and she served as Past Matron of the Eastern Star in Hulett WY. She also was a member of the Northern Hills Quilters Club. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Sue is survived by her daughter, Frances Svoboda of Belle Fourche; brother, Bill Pannell of Alva WY; sister, Peggy Davis of Belle Fourche; 8 grandchildren, Kelly Russell, Joe Allyn Svoboda, Pam Ethridge, Jolene Smith, Marcia Hoeck, Maryl Wassom, Joe Robert Svoboda, Jamie Wade; and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe in 1993; sons, Vance and Robert Svoboda; and her sister, Louise Blankenship.
