Herman F. Farrar

Herman F. Farrar age 74 of Belle Fourche, died Thursday June 17, 2010 at the David M. Dorsett Regional Senior Care Center in Spearfish. Graveside services will be held 9am Monday June 21st, 2010 at Black Hills National Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Funeral arrangements are with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Herman Frederick Farrar was born March 29, 1936 near Wausau, Wisconsin. He was the son of Glen and Hazel (McCullom) Farrar. Herman grew up on the family farm near Wausau, where he also attended school. At the age of 18 he left school and joined the U.S. Army where he served his country four years. He received his GED through the Army. Herman also served in the U.S. Air Force four years. In 1958 he was united in marriage to Dorothy. To this union was born a daughter, Carrie. They later divorced. In 1969, Herman was married to Carol Friesen in Tacoma WA. To this union was born a son, Rick. Following their marriage, Herman and Carol lived in Tacoma and in Montana for 9 years, ranching and farming in several areas. In 1987 they moved to Newell, and Herman worked for Odle Dairy in Nisland for several years. Carol died in 1990. In April of 1993, Herman was married to Kathy Drew in Sturgis. She died in December of 2009. Herman retired in 1995, and for the past 3 years has been a resident at the David M. Dorsett Regional Senior Care Center in Spearfish. Herman is survived by his son, Rick Farrar of Belle Fourche; daughter, Carrie (Farrar) Jacob of Wisconsin; step-sons, Todd Odson of Belle Fourche, Tim (Sarah) Odson of Gillette WY; step-daughters, Sherri (Eric) Fischer of Belle Fourche, Julie (Bryan) Fischer of Sturgis, Shannon (Marshel) Schneider of Whitewood; 2 grandsons; 2 step grandsons; 2 step granddaughters; 2 great grandsons; 1 great granddaughter; 3 step great grandsons; brother, Willard (Marge) Farrar of Wisconsin; and sisters, Grace Farrar of Minneapolis, and Elzina Farrar of Glendale CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; two spouses, Carol and Kathy; and 2 brothers, Clarence and Johnny.
