Coralynn M. Guffey age 87 of Belle Fourche, died Sunday January 17, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. The funeral service will be held 11am Friday January 22nd 2010 at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, with Chaplain Randall Bradley officiating. Visitation will be held 5 to 7pm Thursday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will be held in the Pine Slope Cemetery, in Belle Fourche. Coralynn Mavis Guffey was born June 12, 1922 to Dora (Linderman) and Carl Clyde in a one room house near Garden City, SD. Coralynn grew up near Garden City where she attended grade school and high school, graduating in 1941. Afterwards she helped her family on the farm for awhile as her brother served in the military. She also helped the ladies of the community take care of children and helped with the cooking during harvest time, until her family moved to a farm near Clark SD. On December 19, 1944 she was married to Gurney Guffey in Madison, MN. To this union, two children were born: daughter, Sheila Raye and son Willard Dean. In 1954 Gurney moved his trucking business to Timber Lake, SD where Coralynn learned to drive truck and to help when she was needed. She worked at various businesses and for 26 years she worked for the Moreau Grand Electric, retiring in 1991. Her hobbies included crafts, taking care of her yard, flowers, and horse drawn equipment with her husband. She loved baking cookies and cakes for special occasions for her family. In 1996 Coralynn and Gurney moved to Belle Fourche to be closer to their children, not wanting to leave South Dakota however. Coralynn is survived by her daughter, Sheila Elliott of Belle Fourche; son, Willard (Fran) of Gillette WY; four grandchildren, Shannon and Shelby Elliott of Minneapolis, Kelly (Wendy) Guffey and Brandon Guffey of Gillette WY; three great grandchildren, Zachary, Ashlynn and Aaliyah Guffey. She is also survived by two sisters, Madelon LaChance of Sun City AZ, and Sharron Hodgin of Huachuca City AZ; sister-in-law, Dee Clyde of Winner, SD; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband Gurney in 2005; two brothers; one sister; and one granddaughter.
