Robbie D. Wheaton, age 89, of Belle Fourche, died Sunday December 6, 2009 at the Dorsett Regional Senior Care Center in Spearfish. The funeral service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday December 12, 2009 at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche, with Rev. Paul Howard officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be held in Pine Slope Cemetery, in Belle Fourche. Robbie Delana Hughes was born June 28, 1920 in rural Athens, Texas.  She was the daughter of James and Lydia (Ray) Hughes.  Robbie was raised on the family farm where they grew cotton, yams, and watermelons.  Robbie married James Teague in 1941.  During WW II, James was tragically killed in action on December 2, 1944.  In 1947, Robbie graduated from Southwestern Bible Institute with a BA Degree.  In 1949 she received her Master’s Degree.  Following her college years, Robbie helped start many churches in Texas and South Dakota.  The first church was located in South Bowie, Texas.  She ministered there for 3 years.  Following that she moved to Newell, SD to pastor a church and there she met and married Quentin Wheaton in 1952.  To this union 5 children were born: Quinton Jr., Richard, Rodney, Randall, and Sherrill.  Her husband, Quinton died in 1960 from Leukemia.  Later Robbie moved to Blunt, SD to pastor with a friend, Doris Nixon.  When she left to do Home missions among the Native Americans, Robbie and her 4 children stayed to pastor there for 3 more years.  She then attended Black Hills State College in Spearfish, receiving her teaching degree in 1966.  Sherrill died in 1964 from complications of Down’s syndrome.  Later, Robbie moved with her sons to Iowa to teach at South Tama County School District.  She taught third and fourth grade for 15 years until she retired in 1980.  Robbie lived in Alaska with her son Randy and his family, and later returned to South Dakota and lived with her sons, Richard and Randy and their families.  Robbie is survived by her sons, Richard (Debra) Wheaton of Belle Fourche, Rodney (Clara) Wheaton of Belle Fourche, Randall (Bonnie) Wheaton of Rapid City; sister, Pelba Johnson of Mabank, TX; grandchildren, Earl (Amanda), Lydia (Matthew), Maria (Bob), Shaun (Emily), Evan (fiancé, Sarah), Mark, Celine, Renaye (David), Katelyn, and Matthew; great grandchildren, Justice, Rorie, Nova, Brennan, Ronan, and Finnan. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Teague and Quentin Wheaton; infant son, Quentin Jr.; daughter, Sherrill Wheaton; grandson, Joseph Wheaton; brother, Frank; and sisters, Sybil, Inez, and Billie.
