Melbourn E. Chastain age 59 of Belle Fourche, died Thursday November 5th, 2009 at his home in Belle Fourche. A Memorial Service will be held 10 am Wednesday November 11th, 2009 at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche with Rev. Rick Brennan officiating. There will be no visitation. Melbourn Eugene Chastain was born January 28, 1950 in Caney, Kansas. He was the son of Junior and Wanda (Sampel) Chastain. At a young age Mel moved with his family to Houston Texas where he grew up and attended school. During the Vietnam War, he served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969. During some of this time he was stationed in Seoul, South Korea. On January 14, 1989 Mel was married to Anne Griffith in Lead, SD. To this union, 2 sons were born, Jason and Wyatt. Following their marriage they lived in Lead, and also Trinity Texas for several years. Anne died in 2007 and since then Mel has lived in Belle Fourche. Mel will be remembered for his unique personality. He was well liked by many friends. He was a good carpenter and recently finished helping his brother, Ron with a home project. Mel enjoyed motorcycles and working on cars and trucks. Melbourn is survived by his sons, Jason and Wyatt Chastain of Denton, Texas; brothers, Ron (Lorena) Chastain of Belle Fourche, Kenneth (Wanda) Chastain of Crosby, Texas; sister, Brenda Chastain of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anne; and brother, Dennis Chastain.
