Donald E. Bowman age 75 of Belle Fourche died Thursday October 1, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Pierre, SD. The funeral service will be held 10:30 am Monday October 12th, 2009 at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche, with Pastor Paul Howard officiating. Visitation will be held 5 to 7pm Sunday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, with a 7pm prayer service for friends and family. Interment will be held in the Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche. Donald Eugene Bowman was born April 26, 1934 in Miller, SD. He was the son of Gordon and Edith (McCart) Bowman, and the oldest of four children. Don attended school in Miller, St. Lawrence, and Newell. In 1952 Don began working for Bernard Holtry, at his service station in Belle Fourche. On February 20, 1954, he married Alice Coleman in Rapid City. To this union, they were blessed with four daughters. Don and Alice’s family lived in various communities within South Dakota while he worked in road construction for Dave Gustafson and Sons as a scraper operator. He also worked for the Milwaukee Railroad in Mitchell from 1965 to 1976. In 1976, the family returned to Belle Fourche where Don worked for American Colloid until his retirement in 1996. Not being ready to fully retire, Don worked for Foster – Moncur in Belle Fourche until 2002. In 2003 he and Alice moved to Velva, ND to be closer to family. Alice died in 2004. This past May, due to his failing health, Don moved back to South Dakota and became a resident at the Golden Living Center in Pierre where he has lived since. Don enjoyed woodworking and tinkering in his garage. He loved music and enjoyed music with his four daughters and family. Don touched the lives of many people and he enjoyed visiting with his numerous neighbors, friends, and coworkers. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Donald is survived by his 4 daughters, Jeannie (Larry) Davis of Pierre, Marlene (Steve) Giesler of Green Bay WI, Cindy (Brent) Jespersen of Bismarck ND, Cheryl (Tom) Jespersen of Velva ND; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Dixie (Robert) Justice of Glendive MT; sister-in-law, Arlene Bowman of Belle Fourche; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice in 2004; and brothers, Richard and Delbert Bowman; and sister-in-law, Pat Bowman.
