Ortencia Marie Munoz

Ortencia Marie Munoz age 99 of Belle Fourche died Thursday August 27, 2009 at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care Center in Belle Fourche. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday September 1st, 2009 at the St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Belle Fourche with Father Tim Hoag officiating. Visitation will be held 4 to 6 pm Monday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche and one hour prior to the service at the church. A Vigil Service will be held 7pm Monday at the church. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lead. Ortencia Marie Delatore was born March 4, 1910 in Morley, Colorado. She was the daughter of Salvadore and Petra (Alcola) Delatore. Her and her family moved to the Vale area when she was young. She attended a country school near Nisland. On May 28, 1926 Ortencia was married to Manuel Munoz. To this union 12 children were born. Following their marriage they moved to Lead where Manuel was employed at the Trojan Mine. In 1954, Manuel was killed during a mine collapse and following that, Ortencia went to work at the St. Joseph Hospital in Deadwood. For several years she worked there, and she worked hard in the home as well, maintaining the home and taking care of her children. In the late 1950’s she and her children moved to Spearfish where they lived for about 8 years, before moving to Belle Fourche. For the past two years, Ortencia has been a resident at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care Center. Ortencia will be remembered for her great commitment to her family. She was a great woman in many ways. She was a strong person and not one to complain. She was very hospitable and when visitors came to the house, there was always something to eat and drink. Her Catholic faith was important to her and she loved her grandchildren. She will be missed very much. Ortencia is survived by her children, Mike (Irene) of Reno, NV, Vera (Arley) Iverson of Questa, NM, Margaret (George) Gerbracht of Bison, Jennie (Joe) Kotak of Spearfish, Martha (Bill) Huffman of Belle Fourche, Mary Lundstrom of Milan NM, Diana (Arlan) Shoemaker of Spearfish; brother, Eddie (Maxine) Delatore of Michigan; sisters, Helen Fegueroa of Belle Fourche, Beatrice Vodapich of Colorado; 21 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 7 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; children, Phillip, Elinor Hultenschmidt, Manuel Jr., Daniel, infant David; 3 grandchildren, Billy, Duane, and Monica; 1 great grandson, Boe; 5 sisters; and 2 brothers.
