* VIDEO TRIBUTE CAN BE VIEWED BELOW * Marjie Junek, Belle Fourche, died December 10 after a brave, 14-month battle with cancer. She was born Marjorie Anne Hollister on October 25, 1931 at Buffalo, SD to Ed and Lucille (Chambers) Hollister. She grew up on her family’s ranch in Harding County, attended a country school, and graduated from Newell High School in 1949. As a young woman she obtained teaching certification at Black Hills Teachers College, taught at several country schools, and was also employed in retail and customer service jobs in Rapid City. She married David Junek on June 8, 1955. The couple ranched in Harding County for more than 50 years. Marjie worked hard at housework inside and ranch work outside. The Juneks had three children – Janet, Mark, and Brad. Marjie was happiest serving others, including her children, neighbors in need, or the community through church and other organizations. Friends and family remember her flowers and her vast vegetable gardens that yielded produce for annual canning projects. Often her jellies and other canned goods were given away as gifts and enjoyed by many. She loved music and enjoyed singing in church choirs over the years. Dave and Marjie traveled to all sections of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and to Europe and through the Panama Canal. In 2006 they sold the ranch and moved to an acreage south of Belle Fourche. Marjie is survived by her husband of 61 years, daughter Janet (Paul) Higbee of Spearfish, son Mark (Patty) Junek of Gillette, son Brad (Pam) Junek of Rapid City, and eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Bonnie Mudge of Coolidge, Arizona and Ardeth Gatlin of Branford, Florida, brothers William Hollister of Spearfish and Jim Hollister of Rainier, Washington, and many nieces and nephews. Marjie was preceded in death by her parents, sister Fay Hollister, and infant sister Jeanne Hollister. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Northern Hills, and Feeding South Dakota. The funeral service will be held 11am Friday, December 16th, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Belle Fourche. Officiating the service will be Pastor Tim Smith and Pastor Jean Helmer. Visitation will be held 5 to 7pm Thursday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. There will be a prayer service at 6pm. It was back in ‘31. She entered this world in October, At the end of the Autumn sun. She grew up on a ranch near Redig. Not far from a boy named David. Eventually they’d meet and court And later they’d get married. Together they ranched and she worked hard It’s a lot of washing clothes, raising a family She gardened and tended to her flowers. She was talented at canning things like jelly. Yes, it all began in Harding county. Life, love, and family. Those days moved by so fast We’d go back in time, if only. Now it’s Christmas time, it’s winter time. Marjies gone home to heaven. We miss her so – we love her so But we trust God now – He has risen. ~ML~
