** VIDEO TRIBUTE CAN BE VIEWED BELOW **Lester Smith, age 69 of Belle Fourche, died Monday, October 24, 2016 at the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, Colorado. The funeral service will be held 10 am Friday, October 28th, 2016 at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Thursday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard. Memorials are preferred to the Belle Fourche Compassion Cupboard. Lester Lee Smith was born March 29, 1947 in Mobridge, South Dakota. He was the son of Charles and Grace (Callahan) Smith. At a young age, Lester moved with his family to the Newell and Belle Fourche area, and in 1966 he graduated from the Belle Fourche High School. During the Vietnam War, Lester served his country in the U.S. Army for two years. On March 13, 1971, he was united in marriage to Sharon Webster, in Belle Fourche. Together they were blessed with 45 years of marriage. Lester spent 42 years of his life working at the Bentonite Plants in Colony, Wyoming. Throughout these years, Lester did work in many areas. He loaded trucks and trains; he was a heavy equipment operator and field driller; and he spent many years in maintenance and in the parts department. He retired on March 29, 2013. Lester will be remembered for being a hardworking man. He was a kind man, considerate of everybody, and he was easy to get along with. He loved his retirement years, his motor cycle, and being home enjoying life with his wife. He will be greatly missed. Lester is survived by his wife, Sharon of Belle Fourche; brothers, David (Marlene) Smith of Belle Fourche, Loren (Rosie) Smith of Oregon; sisters, Janice Barber of Belle Fourche; and Donna (Austin) Post of Newell. He was preceded in death by his parents.
