** VIDEO TRIBUTE CAN BE VIEWED BELOW ** Elsie M. McKnight, age 84 of Belle Fourche, died Monday, August 15, 2016 at the Belle Fourche Senior Care Center, surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10am Saturday, September 3rd, 2016 at the Summit Open Bible Fellowship Church in Belle Fourche. The service will be officiated by her son, Randall McKnight and Pastor Rick Brennan. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery Memorials are preferred to the Belle Fourche Area Food Shelf. Funeral arrangements are with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Elsie Marie Collins was born November 4, 1931 in St. Paul, Kansas. She was the daughter of Nathaniel and Ruby (Keith) Collins. When Elsie was 13 years old, her mother died. Following, she grew up with her brothers and sisters, and she was the youngest of 14. On November 19, 1949 Elsie was united in marriage to Edwin McKnight in Roseburg, Oregon. To this union one son and 5 daughters were born: Randall, Jamie, Bonnie, Janet, Twila, and Loretta. Following their marriage, Edwin and Elsie lived on a ranch near Alzada, Montana. In 1958 they moved into South Dakota near the Orman/Arpan area. For 25 years, Elsie worked at the John Burns Hospital in Belle Fourche. She also helped with her daughter’s (Twila) daycare business for seven years. In 1981 Edwin and Elsie moved into Belle Fourche. Edwin died in 2010. Elsie was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved all her children very much, and she was a grandmother to more than just her own. Elsie will be remembered for her cooking and baking, especially her bread and chicken and noodles. She was passionate about the food shelf in Belle Fourche as well. She especially loved her dog named “Mr. Ed”. Elsie is survived by her children, Randall (Jeanine) McKnight of Austin TX, Jamie (Tim) Goeringer of Prescott Valley AZ, Bonnie (John) Elvestrom of Huntley MT, Janet (Pat) Barden of Belle Fourche, Twila (Bob) Suwyn of Belle Fourche, Loretta (Tom) Groves of Wright WY; 20 grandchildren; 55 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, “Mr. Ed”. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Julie Goeringer; sons-in-law, John Heinert, Jim Stuart; and 13 brothers and sisters.
