** VIDEO TRIBUTE CAN BE VIEWED BELOW ** Izelle Berglund, age 96 of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, January 27th, 2016 at the Sturgis Regional Senior Care Center. The funeral service will be held 10 am Wednesday, February 3rd, 2016 at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche. Visitation will be held 1 to 6 pm Tuesday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery, Belle Fourche. Memorials are preferred to the St. James Lutheran Church. Alice Izelle Berglund was born April 10, 1919 in Rapid City, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Leslie and Clara (Held) Reid, the second of twelve children. Izelle grew up on sheep ranches located in the Union Center and Newell areas. She attended a one room school through 8th grade and in order to attend high school, she worked for her room and board during the Great Depression and graduated from the Newell High School. Soon after high school, Izelle moved to Minneapolis, MN where she worked as an inspector in a defense plant where fifty caliber bullets were made during World War II. In 1944 she moved back to Belle Fourche where she has lived since. On December 2, 1945, Izelle was united in marriage to Roy Berglund in Belle Fourche. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage before Roy died in 1998. Together they owned and operated a rooming house for 36 years in Belle Fourche. Izelle also clerked for area businesses, including the Cliff Thomas Drug Store, Montgomery Ward, Ron Schwans, and Prichett’s Grocery. Her hobbies included making quilts for her family. She won several ribbons and awards at fairs for her quilting talents. The coffee pot was always on and she enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. She was a wonderful cook and baker and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Izelle was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and a long time member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She will be missed so much. Izelle is survived by her children, Gary (Karla) Berglund of Fruitdale, and Sandra (Ron) Rothermel of Belle Fourche; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Lester (Marie) Reid of Arpan, Ray (Diane) Reid of Belle Fourche, and Howard (Rose) Reid of Belle Fourche. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, Bradley Rothermel; great grandson, Mason Peterson; sisters, Florence Glanzman, Clara Homer, Ann Hubbard, Evon Schultz, Ida Reid; and brothers, Bill Reid, Harvey Reid, and Clarence Reid.
