Norman R. Talsma, age 71 of Belle Fourche, died Thursday August 13, 2015 at his home in Belle Fourche. To celebrate his life, Norm’s Last Pig Party will be held Sunday September 6th, 2015 at Jorgenson Park in Spearfish. This event will begin at 8am and include a pork roast picnic at noon. Arrangements are with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Norman Robert Talsma was born December 12, 1943 in Bakersfield, California. He was the son of Glen and Hazel (Risewick) Talsma. Norm grew up in Burke SD where he graduated from high school in 1962. His first job was when he was a meat cutter for Pinky’s. Later he became a lineman for Rosebud Electric, and for several years he worked on the I-90 road construction project. For many years Norm worked as a mechanic. In 1984 he moved to Sheridan WY and in 2000 he retired and moved to Belle Fourche where he has lived since. Norm’s best friend and partner in life was Sally Willis. For thirty years the two of them spent time together. She died in 2010. Norm enjoyed hunting and tinkering on mechanical things. He had a passion for remote control airplanes. He wasn’t a veteran, but he was very patriotic and being chosen to be an honorary member of the BHSC Vets Club in Spearfish meant very much to Norm. Norm is survived by his sons, Brett of Winner SD, Terry of Belle Fourche, Wayne of Belle Fourche, Josh of Rapid City; brothers, David (Kathy) of Spearfish, Don (Annette) of Fredricksburg VA; and many friends.
