Interment will be held in Bear Butte Cemetery, in Sturgis. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Faith Area Memorial Chapel in Faith, with the assistance of Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Ellen E. Palmer was born January 5, 1936 in Faith, South Dakota. She was the daughter of LeRoy and Grace Alverda (Murphy) Palmer. Ellen grew up in the Red Owl area, where she also attended country school. She was united in marriage to Allen Talley on August 8, 1953 in Sturgis and they began their life together on the “Cow Camp” of the Talley Ranch. In 1958 they moved 3 miles south to be closer to school. There, they raised their family of 1 son, Rolis and 3 daughters, Sharon, Reena and Nancy. Ellen was a self-taught seamstress and owned a fabric store that she ran out of her home in Opal. She gave sewing lessons as well. In many ways a person could say sewing was her life in those days. After they sold the ranch in 1990, they lived in Whitewood for a time and then moved to Julesburg, CO where they managed a motel until 2003. They then moved to Faith to manage the Prairie Vista Inn for a time, continuing to live in Faith until 2010 when they moved to the Belle Fourche Belle Estate Senior Living Center. Allen died in October of 2014 and since then Ellen has remained at Belle Estate. Ellen loved her life there as she became family with the staff and residents. She enjoyed her potted flowers and tomato plants, yahtzee games and bingo. Ellen was very proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed attending all their events, especially the rodeos. Many memories were made on the camping and fishing trips that the family took in her younger years. She will be missed very much by her family. Grateful for sharing her life are her daughters, Sharon Priest of Dell Rapids, SD, Reena (Dave) Veit of Buffalo, WY and Nancy (Lynn) Miller of Mud Butte, SD; daughter in law, Jan Talley of Pierre, SD; 8 grandchildren, Regan (Levi) Kling, Danielle Priest, David A. (Brianne) Veit, Grant (Trish) Veit, Chancy (Jordan) Miller, Taylor, Shayna and Katy Miller as well as 6 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her siblings: brother, Dave Palmer of Casper WY; sisters, Darliene Keffeler of Alkali SD, June Tennis of Sturgis, Jean (Jack) VanSickle of Sturgis, LaRayne (LeRoy) Clem of Isanti MN, Marjo (Gordon) Speakman of Milton Firewater OR, Verda Wall of Eden Prairie MN; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Palmer of Faith, and Darlene Palmer of Aberdeen.
