Lydia Kindsfather, age 103 of Spearfish, died Sunday May 17, 2015 at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish.  The funeral service will be held 1:30 PM Friday, May 22, 2015 at St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche.  Visitation will be held 4 to 6 pm Thursday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.  Interment will be held in Pine Slope Cemetery, in Belle Fourche.  Lydia Kindsfater was born February 20, 1912 in Russia.  She was the daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Kindsfater.  At the age of 3 weeks she moved with her parents and her brother to Brend, Germany to begin their trip to America.  The family lived in Milwaukee WI.  They moved to Laurel, Montana to make their home.  Lydia’s father worked in the round house for the railroad for a few years.  Later the family moved to a farm near Laurel Montana where Lydia grew up in the rural area.  Lydia was married to Alex Kindsfater in Laurel on January 5, 1934.  Alex was from Belle Fourche and following their marriage they moved to a farm south of town and lived there for five years.  In 1939 they moved to a farm north of the U and I Sugar Company and this was their home for 70 years. Lydia was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Belle Fourche since 1934.  She was a member of the ladies group and Circle.  She was chairman of the quilting group for many years and she made many quilts for family and friends.  She also made lap robes for the nursing home in Belle Fourche.  She enjoyed being part of a card club which met Sundays after church and she loved to crochet afghans. In 2000, Lydia moved from the farm to the Hickory House in Spearfish and lived there for six years.  In 2006 she moved to the Edgewood Vista Center in Spearfish.  She enjoyed all the activities there like playing bingo.  In 2012 she moved into the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish, where she has lived since.  Lydia is survived by her two daughters, Marion Aberle of San Diego CA, Lorraine (Wayne) Hendrickson of Belle Fourche; son, Paul (Connie) Kindsfater of Belle Fourche; sister, Carolyn Cook of Billings MT; 7 grandchildren, Corrie, Jered, Hilary, Bruce, Barry, Tim, Derek; 9 great grandchildren, Kim, Janelle, Alec, Paul, Kayleigh, Kyle, Greyson, Thomas, and Lewis; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 3 brothers, Jake, Henry and Richard; 3 sisters, Tillie, Emma, Ann; and 1 granddaughter, Amy.
