Voncille Maxine Kirkpatrick, age 89 and long term resident of Belle Fourche passed away Monday, March 30th, 2015 in Littleton, Colorado at The Gardens at Columbine Assisted Living Center. A funeral service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche 10:30 am Friday, April 3, 2015 with Pastor Bob Duemig officiating. Burial will take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. A visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Thursday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers Memorials are preferred to the Abbott House in Mitchell, S.D. http://www.abbotthouse.org/ or the United Methodist Church http://www.bellefourcheumc.com/ Voncille Kirkpatrick was born June 9, 1925 in Electra, Texas to Glenn and Lucile (Parks) George. The family moved to the George Family ranch near Briscoe, Texas in Hemphill County. Upon graduation from Canadian High School, she attended West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas where she received an Associate’s Degree in Education. On February 14, 1947 she married Weldon J. Kirkpatrick of Dalhart, Texas. The couple moved to the Kirkpatrick family farm where she taught elementary grades at the local school. In 1958, Weldon, Voncille and family moved to Belle Fourche S.D along with his parents and purchased a cattle ranch near Alva, Wyoming. Voncille was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche and actively participated in the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 60 years. She worked at the Belle Fourche Public Library for 25 years as an assistant librarian. Voncille enjoyed reading history especially of the early pioneers in West Texas and the Dakotas. In 2013 she moved to The Gardens at Columbine Assisted Living Facility in Littleton, Colorado near her daughter Debra Kirkpatrick and husband also in Littleton. Voncille is survived by her son Lanny Kirkpatrick and wife Maria of Orlando, Florida; her daughter Debra and husband Tom Leonard of Littleton, Colorado; sister Carlene Curlee and Family of Acworth, Georgia; granddaughter Kelly Munoz and family of Bronx, New York and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Weldon Kirkpatrick.
