Wayne Doak, age 94 of Faith, died Sunday February 22, 2015 at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Care Center in Belle Fourche. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11am Wednesday February 25, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Faith. At 10am a Rosary service will be conducted. Visitation will be held 3 to 6pm Tuesday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place 10am Thursday at Black Hills National Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard. Wayne Doak was born April 5, 1920 in Faith, South Dakota. He was the son of Charles and Lucy (Law) Doak. Wayne grew up on the family ranch located south of Faith, and he graduated from Faith High School. During World War II, Wayne served his country in the U.S. Army. During this time, Wayne fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his effort. Wayne came from a military family. His brother Donald also earned a Purple Heart and his two sisters Betty and Lorena also served during World War II. On June 16, 1949 he was united in marriage to Marie Mastel at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Faith. To this union two sons were born: Pat and Don. Following their marriage, Wayne and Marie lived in Faith for many years. Wayne worked at the Faith Elevator for a time, and then for several years he was a Bridge and Roads Inspector for the SD Highway Department, retiring in 1978. He also was a rancher, always having some cattle to take care of. Following his retirement from the highway department, Wayne worked at Faith Livestock and for several summer months he planted trees for the local conservation office. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the local VFW and American Legion clubs of which he served as Commander and Quarter Master. In July of 2012 Wayne and Marie moved to the Belle Fourche Senior Care Center, where Marie died February 23, 2013. Wayne was a hard working man in his younger days. He always stayed busy. He and his wife shared many dances together years ago, and now they are reunited, together again. Wayne is survived by his sons, Pat of Huron, Don (Marie F.) of Gillette WY; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Doak, Katie (Jason) Holmes, and Nathan Doak; 3 great grandsons, Braiden, Corbin, and Nolan; and 2 sisters, Betty (Roger) Krause of Belle Fourche, and Lorena Seline of Davenport, Iowa.
