** VIDEO TRIBUTE CAN BE VIEWED BY CLICKING ON WEBLINK ABOVE (Computers Only)  **Marjorie Larson Reder, age 85 of Nisland, died Monday January 26, 2015 at the Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish. The funeral service will be held 2pm Saturday, January 31st, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche, with Pastors Bob Duemig and Doug Clark officiating. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Friday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery and fellowship will follow at the Branding Iron Steakhouse in Belle Fourche. Memorials are preferred to SD 4-H Foundation – Marjorie Reder Memorial. Marjorie Ellen Larson (Marge) was born February 7, 1929 in Belle Fourche. She was the daughter of Chris William and Amy Kent Larson. Marge grew up on the family ranch near Fruitdale, where she attended grade school at the Hillside Country School. She was a 1947 graduate of Belle Fourche High School. Marge attended SDSU, earning a degree in Home Economics in 1951. Afterwards she was a home economist in eastern South Dakota, and later moved to Albion, MT to be a rural school teacher. She also taught in Spearfish, Rapid City Central, Lemmon, and Bison and was a home economist for Safeway Corporation and Black Hills Power and Light. In 1961 she was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) Reder at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche. To this union three children were born: LeAnn, Wanda, and Scott. Following their marriage, Dick and Marge lived on their ranch near Prairie City in Perkins County. In 1970 they moved to Nisland where they ranched while summering livestock near Prairie City and north of Belle Fourche. Marge battled progressive Dementia that became more evident after Dick’s death in 1997 and was furthered when she was badly injured with broken bones from an angry bull attack in 2003. Marge enjoyed the ranch life as an active partner with her husband. She enjoyed working with livestock and running the swather during the hay season. In 1989 she was honored as the SD Cattlewoman of the Year. Marge was also very active in the community. She served on the Northwest Regional Library Board, state / county Farm Bureaus, and on the Butte County Conservation Board. She was a representative to the Western Resource Conservation and Development Association, a multi-state soil conservation alliance, where she received the President’s Award for her contributions in 2000. Marge was a faithful member of the Nisland Independent Community Church where she was always active with music and the ladies aid ministries. Marge enjoyed piano, dancing, public speaking, writing poems, sketching depictions of ranch life, participating in the extension club, and playing in the Cowboy Band. She served on the 4-H Extension Board and provided 4-H leadership at the county and state levels. Because of her lifetime commitment to 4-H , a memorial will be established in her honor to recognize overall achievement in SD. Marjorie is preceded in death by her parents, Chris and Amy; husband, Richard; brother, Robert; and daughter LeAnn. She is survived by her daughter, Wanda Reder of Chicago, IL; her son, Scott (Angela) Reder of Fruitdale and their three children, Whitley, Reece and Raina.. She is also survived by her niece Carol (Chuck) Wood of Gillette WY. Marge was hard-working with a good sense of humor and very strong woman who was devoted to her family and her community. She will be greatly missed.
