** TO VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE - CLICK WEBLINK ABOVE ** Ethel V. Slutz, age 77 of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday July 9th, 2014 at her home in Belle Fourche, surrounded by her loving family. A memorial service will be held 10am Tuesday July 15th, 2014 at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Inurnment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery, in Belle Fourche. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Ethel Viola French was born May 25, 1937 in Sturgis. She was the daughter of George and Rebecca (Davis) French. Ethel grew up and attended school in Sturgis, and later Rapid City. During her school years she was very active in band, and enjoyed being the marching bands baton thrower. On March 8, 1954 she was united in marriage to James Slutz. Following the tragic death of their son Harold in 1960, the family moved to Washington where they lived for 19 years. In 1979 they moved to Rapid City and eventually Belle Fourche and then in 1985 they returned to Washington. Finally in December of 1993 they returned one last time to Belle Fourche. Ethel is survived by her sons, Tim of Everett WA, Dan (Mel) of Belle Fourche, Philip of Springfield SD; daughters, Pam (Ken) Popham of Belle Fourche, Becky Slutz of Belle Fourche, Thu Slutz of Belle Fourche; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Marilyn (Wayne) McDowell and Evelyn Boggan, both of Spokane WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; sons, Harold and James; granddaughter, Jennifer Newsome; and 2 brothers, George and Marty French.
