Ward, age 83 of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11am Wednesday, November 6th, 2013 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Belle Fourche. A Vigil Service will take place 6pm Tuesday at the church. Inurnment will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery, with full military honors by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. Funeral arrangements are with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Loren C. Ward was born May 20, 1930 in Mitchell, South Dakota. He was the son of Charles and Florence (King) Ward. In 1934, at the age of 4, Loren moved with his family to Belle Fourche, where he grew up and attended school with the Class of ’48. Shortly before graduating, Loren enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served with great pride from 1948 until 1952. Loren attended the Southern Teacher’s College in Springfield, SD. On November 28, 1957 he was united in marriage to Bobbe Sturges (daughter of Howard and Evelyn Sturges) in Belle Fourche. Bobbe and Loren met each other when they were in grade school, and they never dated until after Loren’s wedding proposal. From 1959 to 2009, Loren and Bobbe lived in Rapid City where Loren worked as an electrician and “working foreman” for Black Hills Power. Loren retired in 1992 and in 2009 he and Bobbe moved to Belle Fourche, where they have lived since. Loren was an active member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus. Loren will be remembered for his resourcefulness and ability to fix anything. He loved to hunt, which is a passion he is proud to have passed on to his sons and granddaughters. He also enjoyed the annual snow skiing trip with his family. He loved his family, especially his granddaughters. He was very proud of them. He will be missed very much. Loren is survived by his wife, Bobbe of Belle Fourche; 3 sons, Bruce “Jack” (Lisa) of Belle Fourche, Don (Deb) of Belle Fourche, Kris (Suzanne) of Iowa; 4 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Julie) Ward of Rapid City; and sister, Kay (Kenny) Williams of Belle Fourche. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Deda Rae Eickelman.
