Helen L. Enderby

Helen Lucille Enderby, age 91 of Belle Fourche, died Monday, June 17th, 2013 at her home in Belle Fourche. A celebration of her life will take place from 11am to 3pm on Friday, June 21st, 2013 at the VFW in Deadwood. Funeral arrangements are with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Helen Lucille Grove was born September 19, 1921 in Avon, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Roy and Carrie (Wittenmeyer) Grove. At a young age, Helen moved with her family to New Underwood, and later Lead where her father worked at the Homestake Mine. On August 12, 1939 she was united in marriage to Ray R. Mattson in Deadwood. To this union, one son and four daughters were born: Robert, Sandy, Cindy, Becky, and Barb. Following their marriage they lived in Lead for many years. During this time Helen stayed at home raising the family. She also worked as a babysitter for several people, and she quickly became adored as the best babysitter in the world. Ray died in 1983. On November 9, 1990, Helen was married to Robert Enderby in Lead. Following his retirement in 1992, they moved to Spearfish. Robert died in 1996. In November of 2012, Helen moved into Belle Fourche, where she has lived since. Helen will be remembered for baking the best chocolate chip cookies and pasties. She loved to play bingo and was often very lucky. She enjoyed bowling as well, and she loved watching her youngest daughter and grandkids play sports. Helen was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and she will be missed greatly. Helen is survived by her 4 daughters, Becky (Richard) Brooks of Belle Fourche, Sandy (Tom) Mutchler of Lead, Barb (Jerry) Burroughs of Cedar Rapids Iowa, Cindy (Keith) Smith of Spearfish; and 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray Mattson; husband, Robert Enderby; son, Robert Mattson; grandsons, Jerry Lee Burroughs Jr., and Rick Oldemeyer; great granddaughter, Erin Marie Sorenson; brothers, Harold, Walt, Daryl, and Dale Grove; and sister, Laura Boortz.
