McMahon, age 64 of Belle Fourche, died Sunday, February 10th, 2013 at the Sanford Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls, following a short fight against ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Friday, February 15th, 2013 at the First Congregational Church of Christ in Belle Fourche, with Pastor Del Neumeister officiating. Visitation will be held 9am to 7pm Thursday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will be held in Pine Slope Cemetery, in Belle Fourche. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Congregational Church, the Belle Fourche Country Club, or the ALS Foundation for Life, Box 96; Natick, MA 01760. Michael Dennis McMahon was born July 10, 1948 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. He was the son of Dalton and Rosemary (Pagels) McMahon. Michael grew up in Belle Fourche, where he graduated from high school in 1966. Michael received his B.A. Degree in Education from Black Hills State University, and following he taught school in Alexandria and Bison. He received his Paralegal Degree in Denver, from the Paralegal Institute. Following this he became employed at the Bennett and Main Law Firm in Belle Fourche. He worked there for several years, retiring in the early 1990’s due to health issues. In December of 2012, he was diagnosed with having ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Michael was an avid sports fan. He loved to golf, and he spent many hours out at the Belle Fourche Country Club, of which he was a long time member. He was a Yankees fan, a Colts fan, and a die-hard Nebraska Cornhuskers fan. Michael was one of the original members of the Butte County Ryder Cup Golf Team. He was part of the “chain gang” at high school football games, and he volunteered for high school sports often. He was awarded the 1995-1996 Bronc Booster of the Year. Michael is survived by his mother, Rosemary McMahon of Belle Fourche; brother, Dalton Sr. (Annie) McMahon of Portland, ND; niece, Christina (Bryan) Norman of Woodbury MN; nephew, Dalton Jr. (Kris) McMahon of Deadwood; grand nephews, Justin and Sean Norman of Woodbury MN; grand nieces, Winter, Nevada, and Katiyana McMahon of Deadwood; and several cousins, Ann Padilla of Mesa AZ , William Logan of Denver CO, Tim McMahon of Rapid City; Sharron (Mike) Moran of Helena MT, and Shirley (William) Glidden of Kalispell MT. He was preceded in death by his father, Dalton W. McMahon.
