Deanna J. Mickelson age 75 of Nisland, died Wednesday September 12, 2012 at her home. Services will be held 10:30 am Tuesday September 18th, 2012 at the Newell Evangelical Church with Pastor Tom Martin officiating. Visitation will be held 12 to 7 pm Monday, with the family present from 5 to 7 pm, at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Following the service, cremation will take place and burial will be held 10 am Wednesday at the Nisland Cemetery. Deanna Joann Luft was born October 20, 1937 on a small farmstead in Butte County, South Dakota. At the age of 9, Deanna moved with her family to Belle Fourche, where she graduated from high school. On September 19, 1970 she was united in marriage to James Mickelson. Following their marriage they farmed and ranched east of Nisland. Deanna was a hard working farm wife. In her younger years, she worked at the Belle Fourche Hospital and for the past several, has worked as a community reporter for the Newell and Nisland towns. Her articles in the newspaper were always something she enjoyed doing. Deanna was a keeper of memories, both big and small. She loved music and being active in her church. At one time, Deanna made wedding cakes. She loved her children and grandchildren very much, and will be greatly missed by all of them. Deanna is survived by her husband, Jim of Nisland; sons, Jim (Deanna) of Nisland, Kerry (Ann) of Silver Spring, Maryland; daughter, Kim (Craig) Crosswait of Spearfish; 8 grandchildren, Clayton, Ben, Jesse, Kyle, Lauren, Emma, Chloe, Rachael; brother, Henry Luft of Minnesota; and sister, Linda Wamboldt of Washington State. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, John Luft.
