** TO VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE, CLICK WEB LINK ABOVE **Vern Burton age 76 of Nisland, died Friday June 22nd, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving wife and family. Visitation with the family present will be held 5 to 7 pm Monday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. The funeral will be held 10 am Tuesday June 26th, 2012 at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Fourche. Memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Northern Hills. Vern E. Burton was born May 12, 1936 in Alliance, Nebraska. He was the son of Aubrey and Stacha (Larabee) Burton. Vern grew up in Alliance where he attended school. Vern had a lifelong love and aspiration for ranching. And at the age of 16 he left home to begin working on a ranch. On February 16, 1957 he was united in marriage to Diane Grieser in Harrison, Nebraska. Together they enjoyed 55 years of marriage. Following their marriage they purchased a ranch located near Crawford Nebraska. In 1998, Vern and Diane sold their ranch and retired to Nisland where they have lived since. During his retirement years, Vern spent six years working on a buffalo ranch located north of Nisland. Vern will be remembered for his love of the ranch life, and how much he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Many memories were made with his son during their fishing trips to Saskatchewan. What Vern loved most of all, was his family. He was a “rock” to them; he was strong and dependable. He loved his wife, son, granddaughter, and great grandchildren very much. Sabrina was the apple of his eye, and her 4 boys, the same. He will be greatly missed by them all. Vern is survived by his wife, Diane of Nisland; son, Vern Jr. (MeShonne) of Alliance Nebraska; granddaughter, Sabrina (Jerred) Reed of Lincoln Nebraska; 4 great grandchildren, Dawson, Tager, Kayler, Caysen; brothers, Wes Burton of Alliance Nebraska; sister, Bev (John) Mosser of Scottsbluff Nebraska; and brothers-in-law, Buck (Beth) Grieser of Hot Springs, Ben (Chris) Grieser of Cheyenne WY, Bill Grieser of Kearey Nebraska; and sister-in-law, Mary (Oren) Beloskur of Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 infant children; and sister, Audrey Connelly.
