** CLICK WEB LINK ABOVE TO VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE ** Norma Carver, age 80 of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday May 16, 2012 at her home in Spearfish, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation with the family present, will be held on Monday May 28, 2012 from 5 to 7 pm at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, with a public prayer service at 7pm. The memorial service will be held 10:30am Tuesday May 29th, 2012 at the United Methodist Church in Belle Fourche, with Pastor Martin Earl officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Little Dane Church Cemetery, rural St. Onge. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of the Northern Hills, or the Little Dane Church Cemetery. Norma Jean Borg was born August 1, 1931 in White River, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Axel and Ruth (Hendrickson) Borg. Norma grew up in St. Onge, where she attended grade school. She graduated from the Spearfish High School. In 1946, Norma was united in marriage to Ralph “Buck” Courtney. To this union 3 daughters and 1 son were born: Sandra, Laura, Kelli, and Wayne. “Buck” and Norma were later divorced. On November 30, 1968, Norma was married to Russ Carver in Spearfish. Shortly after their marriage, the family moved to a ranch located north of Belle Fourche. Together they owned and operated Henry Thompson Livestock for many years. During these years, Norma worked very hard as a devoted mother, ranch wife and was the bookkeeper for the ranching business. In August of 2010 the couple moved to Sandstone Manor in Spearfish where they have lived since. Norma will be remembered for her hard work, her dedication and love to her family, and the love she carried for all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Norma had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes, they were always funny ones! She was a caregiver to many elderly people in her family. She was a great cook and she had many wonderful holiday dinners as well as family get-togethers. Norma was a former member of the Red Hat’s Society and the SD Wool Growers Association. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Norma is survived by her husband, Russ of Spearfish; children, Sandra (Milan) Salzsieder of Spearfish, Laura (Bob) Larson of Farmington NM, Kelli (Kenny) McFarland of Castle Rock SD; daughter-in-law, Judy Courtney of Spearfish; step-children, Carolyn (Ed) Jenkins of Santa Fe NM, Tom (Laura) Carver of Rancho Murieta CA, Kit (June) Carver of Rancho Murieta CA; 14 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise Elsen of South Haven MN, and Gladys Blevins of Billings MT. She was preceded in death by her sister, Doris Borg; her parents; her nephew, Keith Blevins; her son, Wayne Courtney; step-son, Jim Carver; and grandson, Casey McFarland.
