On August 1, 1919 Wallace (Wally) Brams was born in a sheep wagon on the family’s homestead 10 miles north of Dupree to immigrant parents Walter and Thea (Buskness) Brams. Five years later they returned to Council Bluffs, Iowa where his dad worked for several years for the Union Pacific Railroad. After being seriously injured in a railroad accident, Walter moved his family back to South Dakota and settled on the ranch north of Dupree in 1932. During the mid 30’s they ranched for several years in the LaPlant, SD area. In 1939 Wallace ventured to California to visit his sister Pearl and was hired as a stuntman and rider in the Cavalcade of the Golden West at the World’s Fair on Treasure Island, CA. In 1943, Wally and Walter purchased a ranch on Pretty Creek 12 miles north of Dupree. On January 16, 1945, Wally and Eva (Main) were married in Dupree and lived there while Eva taught school and Wally tended to the ranching interests. During the summer of 1948 they moved out to Pretty Creek Ranch. The sheep and horses were sold and the place was stocked with Hereford cattle. Three daughters completed their family. Wally was a God fearing man who loved his, country, family and the cowboy way of life. He enjoyed his cows, horses, hunting and fishing trips, politicking, keeping up with his grandchildren’s activities, studying American Civil War history, traveling in their Airstream and spending winters at their place in Apache Junction, AZ. In 1997 Wally and Eva retired and moved to Belle Fourche. Wally was a member of the Farm Bureau, active in the local and state Republican Party and was a lifetime NRA member.
