Franklin Kulm

Kulm, age 79 of Belle Fourche, died Thursday September 15, 2011 at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Sturgis, following a courageous fight against a fast moving cancer. Visitation will be held 5 to 7 pm Monday at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. The funeral service will be held 10:30 am Tuesday September 20th, 2011 at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche, with Pastor Paul Howard officiating. Interment will be held in the Black Hills National Cemetery, in Sturgis. Military honors will be provided by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard. Franklin Delno Kulm was born June 10, 1932 in Akaska, South Dakota. He was the son of John and Christina (Kubier) Kulm. Frank grew up and attended school in Akaska. During the Korean War, Frank served his country in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. During part of this time, he was stationed in Germany. On September 4, 1955 he was united in marriage to Bernice Nehlich in Selby. Following their marriage they lived in various communities while Frank worked on road construction projects. In 1975 they settled in Belle Fourche and Frank began work at the Thunder Basin Coal Mine in Wright, Wyoming. He worked there for several years before retiring. For the past several summers, Frank has been employed by the City of Belle Fourche where he worked for the Public Works Department. Frank was a kind hearted man who loved life. He was a sports enthusiast and he loved the MN Twins and Vikings. Frank did not like to be idle. He was a hard worker, and he always was doing something. He loved his co workers and he enjoyed teaching them, and working alongside of them. He loved his family dearly and he especially loved his great grandchildren. Frank will be missed by many, especially his family. Frank is survived by his daughter, Denise (Ron) Anderson of Belle Fourche; 2 grandchildren, Michael (Teresa) Anderson and Taffy Anderson; 2 great grandchildren, Bren and Evin Anderson; sister, Mae Jenkins of Houston TX; and brother, Arnold (Betty Jo) Blumhardt of Sacramento CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice in 2006; sister, Florence Wahl; and 3 brothers, Thomas, Robert, and Kenneth Kulm. IN LOVING MEMORY Franklin D.
